Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

Against the backdrop of Turin being nominated “World Design Capital 2008”, numerous events, exhibitions, etc. are being organised in Turin and in Piedmont province throughout 2008. One of the events in which Abet Laminati, based in Bra, Piedmont, is involved as a partner, is the “Tra decor e decus” design competition. Professional designers as well as up-and-coming talent created new decors and patterns for decorative laminate. The panel of judges, under the leadership of Alessandro Mendini, nominated “Breaking the code”, a design by Francesca Diotti and Francesco Porro as the winner in the NABA category (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti students). “E la Berta filava…pixel”, a design by Sara Magnone won in the PIEMONTE category (professional designers and up-and-coming talent). The winning designs were created as laminates by Abet Laminati using digital print technology and are currently the focus of attention at the “Tra decor en decus” exhibition at the “Forum Omegna”.  The winning designs were also applied in the form of a laminate to an item of furniture and are likewise being shown together with projects by designers including the following: Patricia Urquiola, Markus Benesch, Ugo La Pietra, Denis Santachiara, Italo Rota.  The exhibition at the Forum Omegna will continue to run up to 29/06/2008.

GevelTotaal 2008 trade exhibition review: Introduction of updated range of MEG HPL façade panels

Friday, February 1st, 2008

The GevelTotaal 2008 trade exhibition recorded over 8,000 professional visitors (architects, contractors and others) during the 3-day event that took place in Rotterdam from 23 to 25 January 2008. In addition introducing the new MEG HPL range of façade panels, the emphasis on the Abet BV stand was primarily on the ability to customise MEG HPL façade panels using digital print technology. By way of illustration of this MEG digital print technology, the painting “The Great Wave” by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai was incorporated in the wall cladding of the stand by Otto A. Altmann, the designer of the stand. Another focal point for visitors’ attention was the imposing “Palladio” façade section, built with materials including new MEG Concrete decors and drawing its inspiration from Andrea Palladio, the Italian Renaissance architect.  You can request the new MEG brochure here.
